The impacts of climate change become increasingly apparent and urgent, the need for a rapid and comprehensive transition to a green, low-carbon economy is more pressing than ever. Driving the green transition involves transforming our energy systems, industries, and communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainability. One of the companies driving the green transition is Danfoss, a leading technology partner that helps its customers to decarbonize through energy efficiency, machine productivity, low emissions, and electrification. The growth rate of Danfoss has been breathtaking: in the past five years, Danfoss has nearly doubled its size. In 2022, its turnover totaled EUR 10.3 bn, and the company employs 42,000 employees worldwide.

Danfoss’ innovative technologies enable a decarbonized, digital, and more sustainable tomorrow
At Danfoss, they live by their motto ‘The greenest energy is the energy we do not use’. “Getting more out of less is what the world needs now more than ever. An ‘energy efficiency first’ principle is instrumental to the world succeed in meeting global climate and energy goals. This principle is carried on to all Danfoss’ products and solutions of which energy efficiency takes a huge part”, explains Peter Bauer, Director of Procurement Excellence.

A prime example of this principle is Danfoss’ District Heating and Cooling (DHC) solutions that help refocus excess heat – a significant untapped energy resource – to local districts that need heating. “Danfoss has the know-how to maximize the potential of heating and cooling applications. Our technology supports a cost-efficient transition to renewable and other alternative energy sources via operational flexibility, thermal storage, and peak load mitigation”, continues Peter.

Danfoss is committed to its ambitious sustainability targets

Danfoss’ three main pillars of ESG ambitions include 1. decarbonizing the value chain and helping its customers to achieve carbon neutrality, 2. circularity, and 3. diversity & inclusion. Danfoss is committed to CO₂ neutrality by the latest 2030 (scopes 1 and 2) – supporting the Business Ambition for 1.5°C and signing up to the Science Based Targets initiative. Danfoss also innovates best-in-class circular products as the default when developing, producing, sourcing, and selling to deliver new value propositions. They focus on offering a leading employee experience that values and respects diversity and inclusion to attract and retain top talent that can lead the green transition.

“In addition, Danfoss is now working on plans to transition the company’s energy consumption to renewable sources by the latest 2030, the most prominent sources of green energy being solar farms in our North American region and wind farms mainly in Denmark and Germany. Danfoss plans to power all its North American facilities with solar energy by 2025”, says Peter and continues, “In terms of green energy, we continue toward our long-term commitment to purchase 100% renewable electricity by 2030. By purchasing green electricity where available, we can make the fastest and most significant contribution to climate action”.
