Occupational health and safety are a key part of Scanfil’s responsible business practices. This is reflected in everyday operations: the Sievi factory achieved 483 consecutive days without a lost-time accidents in February. Occupational safety is a long-term investment for Scanfil, supporting both employee well-being and customer trust.

Occupational safety supports wellbeing and productivity

Occupational safety is essential for employee wellbeing. A safe and healthy working environment enhances job satisfaction, reduces absenteeism, and supports smooth operations across the entire organization. When work is safe and predictable, productivity also improves.

“A good working environment — physically, mentally and psychosocially — is a prerequisite for business success,” summarizes Jari Linnala, Operations Manager at the Sievi factory.

Safety is an integral part of operations and customer collaboration at the Sievi factory

Many of the Sievi plant’s customers operate in industries where safety is a critical requirement. A safe working environment supports delivery of reliability, quality and predictable operations — all of which are key factors in successful customer collaboration.

At Scanfil, occupational safety is embedded throughout the organization, and it plays a central role in investment decisions and production changes.

Safety culture is strengthened, among other things, by:

  • continuously increasing safety awareness and making safety visible to all employees
  • investing in ergonomics and safe tools and equipment, such as lifting devices and cranes
  • investing in training and onboarding
  • with tools and processes that enable risks observation and management in everyday work and during production changes

According to Pauli Huhtamäki, HR Manager at the Sievi factory, the long accident‑free period is the result of joint efforts across the entire organization. “Occupational safety is not a separate initiative — it is an integral part of everyday work and decision‑making in production, investments and development,” Huhtamäki says.

The Sievi factory operates in accordance with the ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management system, which supports the systematic and continuous development of safety practices. In addition, the factory widely applies the 5S operating model, supported by regular audits and necessary corrective actions. Adequate and fit‑for‑purpose facilities for different functions enable safety considerations to be effectively integrated into daily work.
